Celebrating Easter with potential restrictions

Easter was supposed to be Australia’s first holiday long weekend without border or lock down restrictions since covid-19 hit our shores over twelve months ago.

It’s fair to say we were looking forward to having a break, perhaps going away on a holiday or spending time with family and friends during school holidays. But with new cases popping up, be prepared, holiday plans may be interrupted.

Regardless of our religious or spiritual beliefs, the Easter holiday is traditionally a time of celebration. Yes, your holidays may be affected by the recent covid cases, but the most important thing is for you to stay safe and look after those close to you.

With a little creative thought, let’s not allow restrictions to dampen your Easter celebrations. There’s always fun to be had.

Here are some easy ways to inject fun into your home this Easter.

Easter craft

Making time to do Easter craft with children is a great way to get them excited about the arrival of the Easter bunny.

If the school Easter Hat parade didn’t go ahead this year, fuel the kids’ creativity and put them to task making their very own special hat.

Easter egg hunt

What could be more than fun than searching for yummy hidden treasures around the home? Don’t make it too easy. Challenge the kids by writing some clues and really make them work for their chocolate loot.

Try to think of unusual places to hide the treats. Just remember not to put anything near electrical appliances. And definitely not where pets could find the loot first. Chocolate is toxic for pets!

Virtually Easter

Traditionally a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, the Easter period is one of the most significant events on the Christian calendar.

If church is part of your family’s Easter tradition, but restrictions may prevent you from attending, consider participating in a virtual service instead. Check church websites for more details.

However you choose to spend your Easter holiday, stay safe and continue to observe social distancing and be patient and understanding with border restrictions.
