Celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday

This Sunday is the one day each year devoted to acknowledging and thanking the special women in our lives.

For more than 6 million mothers in Australia, and let’s not forget those women who are like mother role models in our lives, traditionally Mother’s Day is when we show that extra appreciation to our mum and mother figures.

So when we shower them with additional love and devotion this Sunday, take a moment to consider, and really appreciate, every other day of the year you receive endless love, care and constant support from your mum.

And by appreciation, we mean a day of extra special attention. It may start with breakfast or brunch, followed by an outing. Or maybe a heartfelt gift and message on a card, or even flowers.

But if we’re being honest, we should take the time to appreciate our mums and mother figures more than just once a year on a commercialised day, right?

Mums. The only people who truly understand the meaning of 24/7

Yes, it’s been said that a mother’s work is never done. It actually took for me to become a mother myself to understand this. It’s so true.

There are many great memes about being a mum or mother figure. And like others, I sincerely underestimated how much love my heart could hold until I met my sons. And my Labrador. Actually and our rescue kitty too.

Celebrate with flowers

In Australia, chrysanthemums are the traditional flowers used to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Widely available this time of year, chrysanthemums are available in many different colours including white, yellow, pink, orange, red and purple. Surprise mum with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, just make sure she doesn’t have any allergies 😉

Keep it heartfelt

Another saying is ‘the best things in life are free’. Hugs, kisses, cups of coffee, random acts of kindness… they’re all free.

Make a card, tell your mum how much you care. Thank her for all she has done and continues to do to give you the life you lead.

And if you’re not able to see your mum this Sunday, consider a phone call to tell her how much you care. No doubt that would make her day very special.

But most of all, take good care of your mum and mother figures as best you can this Mother’s Day. Keep them safe. Treasure them every day and pay respects for all they do all year round. Not just on Mother’s Day.
