It is hard to imagine where smart home technology will lead us in the future. But whether it’s in the kitchen, in the great outdoors or on our feet, it’s clear that whatever form it takes, it will offer convenience to the ways in which we work and play.
Below, we’ve sourced six cool gadgets sure to make a difference to the way we live our lives in 2020 and beyond.

Touch-free smart lock

One of the clever devices we can expect to incorporate into our homes in the next few years is a touch-sensitive smart lock. Designed by PassiveBolt, this device converts existing door locking systems to become touch-activated. Whether placed on a fob or stored digitally on your smartphone, providing it is within range, the device will unlock your front door with just one touch. As well as proving massively convenient, it is also affords homeowners added security by alerting the user of unauthorised entry attempts through a mobile app.

A UV sensor that slips onto your fingernail

We live in the sunburnt country yet nine in ten of us don’t know when we need to use sun protection. UV radiation is a known carcinogen and the sun’s UV rays are thought to account for 95 per cent of melanoma cases in Australia. To help solve this issue, beauty brand L’Oreal has developed a sensor it calls UV Sense that has been created to wear on your fingernail as a form of art.

Capable of discovering ultraviolet liability, the sensor itself does not contain a battery but instead uses technology that will allow the device to work for up to three months before requiring recharge. The device works when the data from the sensor is downloaded to an app automatically anytime the device is held adjacent to the wearer’s smartphone. The app keeps step of your risk levels and can afford tips for managing sun consumption.

Another product that you could be wearing before the year 2020 is complete is also sun-related. Not only can Audio Sunglasses from electronics brand Bose be used in their traditional form but these wearable devices can also be used to play music, make and answer calls and connect to Bluetooth. Able to be pared with your other devices, they are also capable of accessing apps including Spotify or Google Maps. Other features of the $275 (approx.) glasses include an Integrated microphone for clear calls and access to your phone’s voice assistant. It is hoped that the next generation of these glasses will enable them to be connected to fitness or gaming apps too.

A functional kitchen and a skilled home cook are nothing without the perfect array of kitchen tools. Which is why this $50 (approx.) Uutensil Automatic Pan Stirrer should be a must in every home.
