They’re romantic, elegant, beautiful to look at smell divine. They’re roses of course!

And the beauty of roses is there are so many varieties that there’s bound to be at least one that will appeal to your special one.

From tiny single blooms to beautiful double blooms, roses vary in fragrance from soft to rich, deep scents.

Rose plant shapes and sizes vary too. From compact miniature plants, to climbing roses and standard rose bushes – which look like a lollipop on a stick – to groundcover roses and everything in between.

Symbolic of love, from luscious reds to purple and pink and everything in between, each rose variety has traits that sets it apart from the rest.

Smarter Communities Senior Business Development Manager, Stella McWiggan, lives in strata and loves potted roses.

“Just because we don’t have a garden as such doesn’t mean we should miss out on having beautiful plants on our balconies.

“Blood red roses are divine but my absolute favourite are yellow roses. They represent friendship and good will, and they’re so bright and happy in colour. You can’t help but smile when you see them.”

Roses love the sun, so put them in a nice, warm place on your balcony or courtyard. They’re always hungry too. If you feed them well with rose food (and apparently banana peels) they’ll respond by producing gorgeous flowers.

It may seem a little Morticia-ish, but it’s good to cut off dead rose heads to keep your rose bush looking glamorous, and roses should bloom again.
