Celebrating Father’s Day

On the first Sunday of September each year we celebrate Father’s Day here in Australia.

Traditionally this is a day to show your appreciation for your father and/or father figures in your life. By appreciation we mean a day of extra special attention, possibly starting with a yummy breakfast followed by a favourite outing or activity, then stretching the celebrations out all day. You can thank me later dads 😉

But seriously, Father’s Day this year will most likely be celebrated differently to past years.

Maybe it’s time for a change anyway. Just because of COVID-19 restrictions, this doesn’t mean the day should be less fun. Of course, abiding by social distancing rules and other pandemic restrictions, it’s still a day to be celebrated, so that’s exactly what we’ll do.

It’s time to be imaginative this Father’s Day. Besides a gift – which dad will love I’m sure – what’s his favourite movie? Maybe watch it with him. Or if he likes to read, treat him to a book.

However you choose to celebrate, stay safe and abide by restrictions.

And remember, the best things in life are free. Hugs, kind gestures and expressing how much your father or father figure means to you is so much more valuable. Keep it heartfelt.

Three cheers to all the amazing dads out there. Have a happy Father’s Day.
